Christian Science Nursing

Lesleah L. DeFriscoArden Wood first opened its doors in 1930 as a healing sanatorium for patients needing Christian Science nursing care and for nurses training. Today, Christian Science nursing remains at the core of Arden Wood’s purpose. Individuals who wish to rely solely on Christian Science for healing can be tenderly cared for and supported by qualified Christian Science nurses in an atmosphere conducive to healing and spiritual growth.

A Christian Science nurse is first and foremost a Christian Scientist—one who has chosen the healing ministry of Christian Science nursing as a career. A Christian Science nurse is motivated by the earnest desire to serve God and man by living the requirements set forth in the Manual By-Law, “Christian Science Nurse” (Art. VIII, Sect. 31), which states: “A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sickroom, and who can take proper care of the sick.”

Christian Science nursing services provided by Arden Wood include inpatient care, outpatient care, and a Christian Science Visiting Nurse Service that provides temporary care in the home, office, or anywhere there is a need in the community.

Arden Wood is fully accredited by The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc., and strives to maintain highest standards of Christian Science nursing care and training.
