
What specific services does the Sheltered Care Program provide?
- Private room (partially furnished) and bathroom.
- Twenty-four-hour care and oversight by Christian Science nurses with expectation of healing and progress.
- Light assistance with personal care, bathing, and mobility.
- Assistance for individuals with vision challenges and for those needing gentle reminders and guidance.
- Access to sunroom and library with Christian Science and Bible study books.
- In-room broadcast of Christian Science writings, articles, hymns, and the Bible Lesson available around the clock, as well as in-room broadcast of local church services.
- Daily activities and occasional scheduled activities.
- Three hot meals a day served in a small dining room.
- Escort to meals and activities, and assistance with reading if needed.
- Daily bed making.
- Weekly housekeeping and laundry services.
- Transportation to church on Wednesday evenings and Sundays
- Scheduled car rides to the beach or Golden Gate Park
Who qualifies for admission to the Sheltered Care program?
- Sheltered Care guests must be practicing Christian Scientists and be a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA and/or a Christian Science branch church.
Is there a limit to how long a person can stay in Sheltered Care?
- No. While we expect swift and permanent healing, there is no limit imposed on the length of a guest’s stay in Sheltered Care.
Is it required for guests in the Sheltered Care program to work with a Christian Science practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal?
- Yes, they are expected to be in regular contact with a Christian Science practitioner to support their spiritual growth.
How much does it cost to stay in Sheltered Care?
- The cost per day is determined by level of care. There are three levels of care provided in the Sheltered Care Program. Please contact the Director of Christian Science Nursing at (415) 379-2224 for further details.
Can long-term care insurance be used to help pay for Sheltered Care?
- Long-term care insurance may apply, but it depends upon the insurance carrier and the terms of your policy. Please check with your insurance company.
